Working hard for Ballinasloe
August 08, 2022
Cúil na Cánalach is a fantastic location in Poolboy so close to town and will have close access to one of the possible routes for the Galway to Dublin Cycleway coming along the old Grand Canal.
This section of the estate is ripe for development and currently is poorly maintained and there needs to be a plan to manage this space. Also Galway County Council’s treatment plant is a development on the far side of the estate towards the river.
In relation to footpaths - we will have safe connectivity to town.
I worked with senior Engineers in Ballinasloe Municipal District to apply for Active Travel Funding.
- Phase 1 footpaths in Poolboy from crossroads to along Hall’s Boreen/Mill Road and down to Oak Glen as well as the initial section in Beechlawn.
- Phase 2 funding under Active Travel is to tackle the seriously dangerous bend at Rings corner and onto Square D and also the second half of Beechlawn. An engineer’s assessment and plan is required first due to steep decline on each side along the top road in Poolboy.
In reviewing the planners report on this application 21/2218, zoning designation of the area and reports needed for wastewater provision/ proximity to the River Suck were key issues.
We are also fundraising for Ballinasloe Says No as we challenge Galway County Council's decision to allow a permit for a Waste Transfer Station. We have started proceedings in the High Court and we need your support. We have fought all other attempts and been successful in preventing this unsuitable location for a transfer station. This mean stopping 30 ton trucks trying to navigate the roundabout at Tesco and travelling through Poolboy to reach this site.
Please share the event page here for golfers and people can also sponsor a team or sponsor a tee-box all support is welcome & thank you
