I will develop Galway/Roscommon as an activity destination for our community and also as part of Bord Fáilte Hidden Heartlands. I will support eco-tourism, heritage infrastructure projects e.g. Athlone-Ballinasloe Grand Canal Greenway, Shannon-Suck Waterways, walks like the Beara Breifne Way/Hymany Way to Ballygar. In particular to support the location of a Greenway Regional Office in this area.
I will work with local enterprise offices, government agencies, town development associations to build a cohesive plan and incentivise start-ups in these sectors.
I have previously campaigned to monitor the impact of construction on our waterways. On the environmental side I will also closely review construction in natural floodplains and promote smart planning for our future
I will work to ensure the development of a recreational park and resource in Ballinasloe as agreed in the 1999 High Court Order and a condition of the previous landfill closed in 2005.
I will work as proven in the past year to ensure the health and safety of our community by ensuring smart planning and hold agencies and our Councils accountable for the quality of life of people in Roscommon/Galway.
I will work with groups to promote environmental awareness and promote pilots to reduce single use plastic
Imagine our region as an activity destination with parks, forests, Greenways and Blueways driving tourism and spin-off craft businesses, catering & accommodation. Building Hidden Heartlands for East Galway and creating ways to support farm incomes.
My vision is simple...
- Clean air
- Clean water
- Safe roads
- Reduced pollution
- Regional Greenway office for the West, blueways
- Tracks & trails
- Develop a Hidden Heartlands Bord Failte activities in a destination like Lough Boora Discovery Park as a resource for Ballinasloe in the promised recreational park at the old landfill. (ref: High Court Order 1999)
