An Taoiseach backs Senator Aisling Dolan in Dáil race and praises her delivery on health and education

Speaking at the launch of the Senator’s General Election campaign in Roscommon, the Taosieach said he wants her on his team and needs Dolan in the Dáil

Fine Gael General Election Candidate for the Roscommon-Galway constituency, Senator Aisling Dolan, has received the firm backing of An Taoiseach Simon Harris this week. The Taoiseach was in Roscommon on Tuesday afternoon for the Senator’s General Election campaign launch. “I want her on my team, I need her in the Dáil,” he announced.

Addressing locals in Roscommon Town, the Taoiseach described Senator Dolan as “the real deal” and praised her commitment to the region.

“She has worked so hard for Roscommon-Galway over the last number of years – in the Seanad as our Spokesperson on Education, always speaking up for the west, and as a Councillor before that. She has delivered major infrastructure projects and I want her on my team,” he said.

Continuing, he noted that Roscommon-Galway was one of only two constituencies nationally that did not elect a Government TD in the last Dáil. “When the ballot boxes are opened on November 30th, one of the early indications will be if this constituency is going to vote in favour of Government parties and return a Fine Gael TD to the Dáil for this area,” he opined.

The Taoiseach recalled his first meeting with Senator Dolan, a then-Councillor, and her decision to “take the plunge” and join the Party. He spoke of the passion she showed for Portiuncula Hospital and the importance she placed on the body of work that needed to be done. “I was so happy to be back there as Taoiseach a few weeks ago to officially open the new 50-bed ward block at the hospital. Aisling Dolan helped to deliver that,” he stressed.

Praising her work as Fine Gael’s Spokesperson on Education in the Seanad, the Taoiseach said Senator Dolan has constantly worked to “make sure every child gets the best start in this country and to make sure that education is available not just in the big cities but in the regions as well”.

He drew on her background and experience as a researcher and said Senator Dolan has been “a champion for rural Ireland, for regional development, for women in politics and for women in public life”.

“You will make a superb TD and I want to come back here as Taoiseach of this country, having led our party into Government,” he added.

“We have a plan to secure the future of this country at a very volatile time, we have a plan to address the cost of living, deliver the homes, deliver for the regions, to keep people safe, to have a fair and firm migration system, and to give every child the best start in life,” said the Taoiseach.
