Slí na hAbainn Park, Ballinasloe Clean Up
Our dusty jewel is Slí na hAbainn park opposite the Marina and our River Suck Blueway through the town... and it's getting a cleaning!
Last year many residents came to me about this area and I worked with engineers in our municipal district here in town. Thanks to Galway Co. Council and the contractors - this funding is part of the Suck River Drainage Scheme. I'd a chance to catch it in the sunshine last week and 2nd part is the works that just started today - you might have seen the diggers at work at the marina.
Clearing this channel will reduce the risk of flooding with heavy rain as well as ensuring our park looks it's best. So much more we could do to bring it back into use for families & our community. Our new bus station will be at the parking area plus it's an impressive entry to the town for visitors. To show off the incredible arches of our Elizabethan bridge - ties in with our recent archaelogical treasures found in Ballinasloe. And the Council hope to do feasibility studies on cleaning this bridge.
