Shop Local This Christmas and Support Local Businesses– Senator Aisling Dolan

Irish consumers are being urged to support Irish businesses and jobs by making an effort to support local retailers ahead of their anticipated reopening next week.

Fine Gael Senator for Roscommon-Galway, Aisling Dolan is asking people to ‘Shop Local’ as many businesses re-open, today, Tuesday 1st December. “Now is the time to buy gifts for our nearest and dearest from shops and businesses that we know. A national #LookForLocal Campaign is being led through each county’s Local Enterprise Office showcasing the talent, crafts and gift ideas in our area. Many offer options to browse online or ‘Shop Local’ and have a shopping adventure discovering the perfect present”, said Senator Dolan.

“Supporting our neighbours’ jobs, income and businesses by keeping spend in the local economy brings benefits to us all, especially when these are the same shops that sponsor prizes for our clubs, schools and community groups,” added Senator Dolan.

Senator Dolan said that it has been an extremely difficult year for retailers right across the country and it is important to support them in the run up to Christmas.

It comes as Tánaiste Leo Varadkar in recent days launched the Government's campaign, in partnership with Enterprise Ireland and the local authorities, to remind people to 'Look for Local' and build on the recent groundswell of support shown to local businesses when looking to buy goods or services. He said he hopes the campaign encourages people to explore their local retailer this year.
