Senator Aisling Dolan welcomed CLÁR funding announced today by Minister Heather Humphreys under the Department of Rural & Community Development. This is part of Measure 1 under CLÁR for community and sports clubs. Measures 2 and 3 for services in the community under transport or emergency are still under review.
Fine Gael Senator Aisling Dolan stated
“This funding of €350,000 for sports clubs & community centres across County Roscommon will be such a boost for players, coaching teams, committees and volunteers. Funding of car parks & spectator stands in sports clubs is part of a new measure introduced this year by Minister Heather Humphreys – it’s all about the development of community & sports facilities in our towns and villages. Well done to the volunteers who made the applications and ensured planning permission in place if required. To also acknowledge the Roscommon County Council team and Councillors including Boyle MD Cllr Liam Callaghan. Each group won the maximum amount which shows the merit of each of these projects”
“The winning streak continues for Castlerea St Kevin’s who have won €50,000 for their carpark area & lighting which will be well needed now for Connacht champions! And Boyle Celtic will be able to invest in a new spectator stand and to thank Boyle native Deputy Frank Feighan for his support on this project.
“We have an excellent and very active team in Kilglass Community Centre who have will be able to develop an eco-friendly carpark area making it wheelchair accessible and with welcome bike racks which will be very popular when the weather improves.
“I’d also like to congratulate the committees at Kilbride GAA who plan to renovate grounds with lighting, drainage and car charging points as well as Elphin GAA who will also develop a spectator stand.
“At Tremane Hurling Club, they will invest in artificial grass surface as well as St Joseph’s GAA in Kilteevan who will renovate the grounds”
“There is such a demand to upgrade pitches around the country and it shows the importance of sport at a local level. All of these developments in sports clubs will make a huge difference to players and spectators both young and old making it more comfortable and accessible for people at matches and to encourage more people to come out to watch a game & be part of the experience and supporting the team!”
“I want to thank Minister Humphreys for this new initiative through the CLÁR programme which will bring investment and have a major impact for communities. The Minister has a grá for supporting rural areas and has become a regular visitor to Roscommon to review projects funded through her Department of Rural & Community Development. It shows the level of investment, over €60 million in the last 6 years coming into rural regeneration, community centres, playgrounds, walking tracks, amenities and sports clubs making County Roscommon the place to live for families young & old.”
The CLÁR programme provides funding for small scale projects in rural areas that have experienced significant levels of population decline. The programme is divided into three measures, which cover the different initiatives supported by the scheme.
Under Measure 1 of the 2023 initiative, grants from €5,000 to €50,000 are being provided to support the development of community and sports facilities, youth clubs, playgrounds, sensory gardens, walking tracks and much more. For the first time, the programme offers funding to carry out improvements to spectator stands at local GAA and sports clubs.
Measure 2 supports voluntary groups that provide free transport to people receiving cancer care and other treatment. Community First Response Support and Search and Rescue organisations were also eligible to apply. The measure comes with maximum grants of €50,000 for a car and €100,000 for a bus. The deadline for applications passed on 12 May 2023.
Measure 3 is designed to support offshore island communities, with maximum grants of €120,000 available for community transport projects and up to €50,000 available for amenities projects.
