Senator Dolan welcome €800,000 Towns & Villages Funding Co. Roscommon

Announcment today of €15.4 million in funding for 147 rural towns and villages by Heather Humphreys TD Minister for Rural Community and Development

Senator Aisling Dolan welcomed €800,000 across 7 Co. Roscommon projects

‘This success by groups is testament to the fantastic community spirit in Co. Roscommon coming together to improve our towns and villages.

At the moment we are facing tough weeks of total lockdown level 5 however we know that with access to vaccines we will be able to reopen our society and businesses in a safe way.

Rural development is crucial especially opportunities to support people working or studying remotely. In Dysart, funds have been allocated to a study and digital hub area in the community centre. The digital hub will support rural social enterprises and the wider community by facilitating hotdesking, e-working, small-scale training and conferencing.

This investment in town and village enhancement as well as outdoor amenities will encourage more walking and exploring of our own areas.

Footpaths, street lighting and furniture, painting and bike racks for Four Roads will encourage walking and cycling especially in some of our most scenic spots in Co. Roscommon. And in Lecarrow a path to bring people to the marina with outdoor benches, picnic tables and lighting.

It is making our regional areas more attractive to live, to work and to visit.

I’d like to thank the volunteers in these groups for the time and commitment in putting together strong applications for the benefit of all in their community. These groups will be able to now plan for a better 2021.
