Safe Routes to Schools Projects First Projects Selected!

Fantastic news for 5 Schools across Roscommon this morning with the annoucement of funding for 'Safe Routes to Schools Projects'!!
This fund also supports safe parking around schools and ensuring that parents can drop and pick up children safely at schools and this programme also looks at congestion at school gates. The improvements to the school commute could range from an upgraded footpath or new cycle lane to a complete reworking of a school’s entrance. For schools that didn’t get through this year also opportunity in future rounds of funding under this new programme.
Well done to the Principals & Teaching Teams, Board of Managements, Parents Associations working with dedicated teams Green Schools in An Taisce & engineers in Roscommon County Council.
Thank you to Minister Hildegarde Naughton from the West who has delegated responsibility for the Safe Routes to School programme in Dept of Transport.
As Fine Gael spokesperson for Education, brilliant to see this much needed funding to make travel to our schools fun and safe!
