Heritage Boat Association 25th Anniversary at Ballinasloe Marina
Thank you to volunteers on the IWAI River Suck Branch
, this new branch is the reason that the HBA decided to host their 21st rally here with all of their incredible barges. Members are welcome and thank you to Chair Graham Bartlett and all the team including Darragh Dolan, Ian Lucas on the stand yesterday and to Rachel & Ed for organising the great BBQ.
Thank you also to Waterways Ireland
& Galway County Council
for funding the marquee and activities. To Loughrea Craft Club making flying fish, Jay's Flea Circus, flower arranging all part of Galway's #Cruinniu
event. And Donna from the boats who volunteered to do facepainting and the children loved it! We also had the currach and Bolinder engine. As well as fantastic music with Ballinasloe Town Band & Bobby Kilkenny & Friends.
Our visitors on the barge have spoken so highly of the wonderful welcome from businesses, pubs, restaurants and hotels in town. How people shook their hands and gave them a great reception over this week. How when you arrive at our marina you are right in the middle of town with such close access to everything you need. I get the feeling our new friends will tell of their journey here and will return soon!
Also a book launch of Brian Goggins 'Waterways & Means' was completed by his family based on his notes and research... stories of the waterway. Lovely catering & 21st birthday cake by Marina Downey.
History, Heritage, Waterways, People, Town, Talent... we have it all in Ballinasloe!
