Great to see the The Women’s Health Fund (€10m) will ring-fence €2.5m for the National Women and Infants Health Programme in the HSE to accelerate service delivery in four critical areas in 2022.
I spoke last May in the Seanad about the lack of specialist centres for Women's Health in the West and how women need support for normal life events - childbirth & post-natal hubs, menopause. Today we now see further government spending for regional centres.
Government funding to support 6 Specialist Menopause Clinics across the country, 4 Post-Natal Care Hubs, specialist care for Endometriosis and Social Works resources to help vulnerable women in our maternity units. These supports will be delivered on a regional basis.
Womens Health is a priority -potential treatments for the Menopause a normal life event such as HRT - suppor to manage symptoms or early onset for some women from their 30s especially with chemo. So many symptoms that sometime women don't recognise as menopause - Irritable Bowel, Restless Leg, poor concentration, anxiety, depression.
Post-Natal Hubs will support women after childbirth in the areas of breast-feeding as well as depression.
Endometriosis is an extremely painful and hidden condition of the uterus which can take a long time for proper diagnosis. Women can suffer for a long time with symptoms and specialist medical care is required to support women.
All of these supports are critical to Womens Health .
