Dolan welcomes €146,000 funding for Outdoor Infrastructure in Co. Galway

Over €3.2 million was announced by Heather Humphreys TD, Minister of Rural & Community Development under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.

Senator Aisling Dolan welcomed the funding to encourage walking and cycling stating

‘€146,220 has been won in funding for 8 projects across Co. Galway and East Galway has been very successful. These projects focus on developing the trails, walkways, greenways and blueways in our region and investing in infrastructure such as seating, picnic benches, signage. Well done to the community groups who worked with our Local Authority teams in Galway Co. Council to submit these projects’

Projects include improvements to the boardwalks and viewing platforms in our local Lismany/ Kylemore Bogs. And again improvements to the bog road and carpark in Glenamaddy as well as developing trails in Aughrane Forest in Ballygar.

Senator Dolan added ‘In these times of Covid-19 lockdown, we are rediscovering all the walkways and cycleways on our doorstep – our natural heritage is a treasure and this funding will support more development of free outdoor activities for families and all in the community. We also need to ensure that these routes are accessible and age friendly. A walk or cycle for 30 minutes a day can really give a boost in these anxious times so do explore your local area.’
