The rising waters are incredible, to think that some of the roads have been built up 8 ft and still the water is lapping against the edge. Pumps still going to keep the water out and we're in May. All of this trojan work by Roscommon County Council and with local Cllr Laurence Fallon.
Thank you to the committee that met me recently and the local farmers and residents who gave me time and explained the constant fear and anxiety every single day if there is heavy rain or strong winds. This is a turlough, a disappearing lake however the water is not receding fast enough and there is severe concern for this coming Autumn.
I've spoken with Minister Patrick O'Donovan and his office on a number of occasions in the past few months. The Minister with the OPW have been working closely with Roscommon County Council to reach a solution. Today following a request from the Council, the Minister gave approval for emergency measures to prevent further flooding. This is welcome news for residents and farmers whose farmlands have disappeared under water. Safety of families in the area is paramount.
