Senator Aisling Dolan welcomed €700,000 in Government funding for Agricultural Shows. Minister Heather Humphreys announced this funding under the Department of Rural & Community Development
This year we are seeing people being able to gather again after 2 years of the pandemic and people have really missed coming together for the local fairs and shows. This funding from Minister Heather Humphreys as part of the Our Rural Future strategy will support the show committees and give a boost to towns and farming in the West.
And for participants the excitement is rising don’t forget to enter your prized animal in cattle, sheep, horse, dog & cat pet competitions to mention a few all around the county! It will be good to see rosettes being pinned this year in County Roscommon with the first agricultural show starting in Castlerea on 1st August. Followed by Boyle (Sun 14th Aug), Roscommon (Sat 20th Aug), Elphin (Sat 27th Aug) and Strokestown (10th Sept). The Athlone show on the 19th June and Ballinasloe show on Sunday 25th Sept are also of great interest. And of course the opportunity to shop local and support our local crafts, artisan and food entrepreneurs. These shows bring back music, arts, vintage car & tractors – there really is something of interest for everyone and a great day out for families. Shows are always looking for volunteers too on the day so do get in touch with your local organising committee!
