€3.3 million in Active Travel Funds for Roscommon

€3.3 million in Active Travel Funds for Roscommon.
This is incredible investment of €3.3 million in Active Travel in our towns & villages as well as walking and cycling projects in schools across Roscommon. It’s a great day for parents and children having more choice to walk and cycle safely to school.
These funds are being allocated to Roscommon County Council for specific projects as well as for the Active Travel team. It will make our towns become more alive with people choosing to leave the car at home for short distances. CSO data tells us over 80% of trips up to 6kms are made by car and in rural areas probably higher as it can be dangerous walking or cycling on roads with no footpaths. Now we have a healthier safer choice to consider when making short trips.
Cycle paths are also being funded in Athleague and Knockcroghery with over €600,000 allocated for the Ballaghaderreen Town Project and specific town projects for Rooskey, Cloonfad & Roscommon Town.
New and improved footpaths and pedestrian links will transform our region with projects funded in Bealnamulla, Roscommon town, Cootehall, Loughglynn, Ballyleague and footpath projects in Lecarrow, Croghan and Tarmonbarry.
This also include €200,000 allocated to Safe Routes To School projects across the county.
