Positive news with an agreement on the territorial plan for Just Transition funds. The European Commission has adopted Ireland’s Territorial #JustTransition Plan and associated Programme for 2021–2027. This follows Irish Government approval on 29th November 2022.
The designated territory for this fund includes the counties of Laois, Longford, Offaly, #Roscommon, Westmeath, and the municipal districts of #Ballinasloe (Co. Galway), Athy and Clane-Maynooth (Co. Kildare), and Carrick-on-Suir and Thurles (Co. Tipperary).
Our region is impacted by the loss of industries and jobs due to the transition to a greener economy. The Just Transition European fund of €169 million is a mechanism to support our communities and bring a balance to our socio-economic development.
Community groups in Roscommon and East Galway in the local electoral area of #Ballinasloe Municipal District including #Clonfert, #Clontuskert, Ballinasloe Town, to #Mountbellew, #Glenamaddy, #Ballygar and #Dunmore are included in this region for Ireland.
A number of community groups in Ballinasloe, #Shannonbridge, #Ballyforan, have been successful in a first round of national funding in 2020 under Just Transition through the Midlands Regional Agency. This supported remote working, investment and jobs, food hubs, development of cycleways and tourism ventures.
Now Minister Eamonn Ryan has confirmed that a total of €29 million of funding will be available in 2023 under the national and EU Just Transition Funds (EUJTF) for this area.
This fund is due to be launched early 2023 and will be managed by Eastern and Midland Regional Assembly. This is a great opportunity for significant investment in projects across Roscommon and Ballinasloe Municipal District!
