150,000 in funding for 3 towns in Roscommon | Castlerea, Roscommon & Strokestown

Senator Aisling Dolan welcomed funding of €150,000 announced this morning by Minister Heather Humphreys under the Towns & Villages Project Development Measure. This is part of €2.6m to support Town Centre First Projects across the country under ‘Our Rural Future.

I’m delighted to see close to €150,000 in funding for towns in Roscommon.

Castlerea has won funding of €50,000 for Bennetts Walled Garden in the Demesne and I know this is a project very well supported by my colleague Cllr Gareth Scahill. This will assist in the design assessment of the area and better develop trails and walkways in the area

Further funding for Loughnaneane Park in Roscommon town will be so welcome and  improve signage and landscaping in the park as well as brining more art and sculpture installations to the area. Another reason to bring families to visit the park which is only a few minutes away from the town-centre for visitors.

In Strokestown, this fund of €50,000 will be to revitalise a vacant building and bring the MAgent Ballroom back to life as a community hub.”

I’d like to acknowledge the work of so many volunteers in community groups that dedicate hours to applying for funding and to thank the regeneration teams in Roscommon County Council on strong projects.

The Project Development Measure under Towns & Villages programme is another excellent initiative from my colleague Minister Heather Humphreys and the Department of Rural & Community Development to support volunteers in communities to make a difference and fund local development. It is part of ‘Our Rural Future’ policies to make our towns and villages alive with community activity

Minister Heather Humphreys stated

“I’m delighted to announce funding of €2.6 million today which will support Local Authorities and Town Teams to develop a strong pipeline of shovel-ready projects in our local towns.

“I am announcing funding for a wide range of projects today from the development of green spaces and parks in our town centres to projects which look at how vacant and derelict building in our towns can be brought back into use.

“I look forward to seeing these exciting projects and initiatives progress and make positive impacts for our rural towns and villages”.
