Close to €1 million for County Roscommon

Senator Aisling Dolan welcomed close to €1 million for County Roscommon under Towns & Villages funding. It is part of a €18.5 million announced by Minister Heather Humphreys to combat dereliction & breathe new life into rural towns & villages

These are excellent projects bringing total government investment of €950,000 into Roscommon. Well done to our community groups working with Roscommon County Council have submitted strong applications for rural development. This is part of the ‘Our Rural Future’ strategy to promote our towns as fantastic places to live and work and encourage community groups and businesses regenerate areas around our towns and villages.

We will see Central Park a la Monksland with half a million for a performance arena, tiered seating and walking trails.

And €100,000 to ‘Roscommon Bound - Global Rossie strategy’ to promote our region for investment and to showcase why families should consider our region for a fantastic quality of life. Their campaign motto is ‘Live, Invest & Re-Connect’ and check out some great videos on roscommonbound.ie. This is a tribute to our teams in Roscommon County Council and a very welcome investment and I remember the inspirational launch with Minister Paschal Donohoe and Roscommon County Councillors in December 2019. Now that we have come out of lockdown we can really start to ramp up all the planned activities.

Close to a quarter of a million for 5 proposals to develop Cloonfad with a digital hub, outdoor seating, bus waiting areas, recreational areas and streetscape enhancement for shop-owners. This will give such a boost to the local community and businesses.”

Investment of close to €100,000 will see a a community park and recreational amenity in Ballintubber. For community groups who are interested in applying for further projects – please do get in touch with my office for more information.

Minister Heather Humphreys noted:

“I have substantially increased the size of the grants available under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme this year and I am delighted to see that communities and local authorities across the country have worked together and put forward really ambitious projects which will make a lasting difference in towns and villages across the country.

“These projects will breathe new life into our towns and villages and are real life examples of the impact that Our Rural Future is having in communities across the country.

“The first progress report under Our Rural Future shows the excellent progress across Government in the first year of the policy.

“In the coming weeks, I will be announcing a further call for applications under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme and I am asking local authorities and communities to come forward with more ambitious plans for their areas.”
